Professional Coaching
Coaching is the essence of the student/teacher relationship. A teacher knows what questions to ask so that the wisdom and understanding of the student will be brought to awareness. This is not obvious, however, due to the view our society and most of our current educational system has of this relationship.
One major shift in thinking necessary is that this is a reciprocal relationship. The teacher/student role changes as the “object of study” is explored. Indeed, it is the perspective of the one being “coached” (student) as much as it is that of the “coach” (teacher) that gives direction and value to the coaching. This is what happens in the classrooms of Continually Improving Schools.
How many people have said; “If you want to really learn something, teach it!” I am continually searching for better ways to learn, lead and serve. This, I believe, is “The Art of Community” that we are pursuing.
I provide coaching services to school systems, families and individuals, am a faculty member of the William Glasser Institute and currently work as a Quality School Consultant and Middle School Math Coach in Detroit and Chicago Public Schools.
